GOAL, INC., TO HOST BOOK DISCUSSION AND SIGNING WITH MARION K. UNDERWOOD, AUTHOR OF SOCIAL AGGRESSION AMONG GIRLS

Second Installment of the GOAL Guest Author Series

(August 26, 2003-Atlanta, GA) Girls' Outdoor Adventure for Leadership (GOAL, Inc.), will host a discussion and book signing by Marion K. Underwood,Ph.D., author of Social Aggression Among Girls, on Wednesday, September 24, 7:00 p.m., at Atlanta Girls' School, 3254 Northside Parkway, NW; Atlanta.

The free event, the latest installment of the quarterly GOAL Guest Author Series, will be an interactive examination of how girls are socialized to experience and express anger and aggression from infancy through adolescence.

Renowned for her research on anger, aggression, and gender, with special attention to the development of social aggression among girls, Underwood will address questions around:

   *  "Is social aggression really aggressive?"

   *  "When does social aggression begin, and what might it become?"

   *  "Is social aggression more common among girls than boys?"

   *  "Why might girls engage in social aggression?"

   *  "Where might girls learn these behaviors?"

   *  "What can parents and schools do about bullying?"

"It is our honor to bring Dr. Underwood to metro Atlanta. It is touted that while several recent popular books address the topic of girls' "meanness" to one another, Social Aggression Among Girls offers the first, balanced, scholarly analysis of scientific knowledge in this area," said Kaffie McCullough, executive director of GOAL. "Gossip, friendship manipulation, social exclusion-we want to equip parents and those who interact with girls to recognize these behaviors and make them aware of approaches for intervening and preventing them."

The GOAL Guest Author Series was established in response to parents, friends and supporters who were looking for timely information and literary resources addressing the "growing up girl" experience.
