GOAL, Inc. (Girls' Opportunities for Adventure and Leadership), will host a discussion and book signing by Dr. Dierdre Glenn Paul, author of "Talkin' Back: Raising and Educating Resilient Black Girls"
(July 30, 2004-Atlanta, GA) GOAL, Inc. (Girls' Opportunities for Adventure and Leadership), will host a discussion and book signing by Dr. Dierdre Glenn Paul, author of TALKIN' BACK: RAISING AND EDUCATING RESILIENT BLACK GIRLS, on Tuesday, September 21, 7:00 p.m., at Agnes Scott College, Rebekah Hall, Woltz Reception Room 141 E. College Ave; Decatur. This free event, co-hosted by the Agnes Scott College Office of Student Life and Office of Multicultural Affairs, is the latest installment of the quarterly GOAL GUEST AUTHOR SERIES.
In TALKIN' BACK: RAISING AND EDUCATING RESILIENT BLACK GIRLS, Dr. Paul, Associate Professor of Elementary Education and Literacy at Montclair State University, discusses the historic and systemic barriers confronting black girls' development and education, and offers strategies for parents and educators to combat these problems effectively. Her previous publications include "Raising Black Children Who Love Reading and Writing: A Guide From Birth Through Grade Six" and "Life, Culture, Education on the Academic Plantation: Womanist Thought and Perspective". Dr. Paul's body of work has established her as a nationally recognized and innovative scholar on child development and education.

The GOAL GUEST AUTHOR SERIES was established in response to parents, friends and supporters who were looking for timely information and literary resources addressing the "growing-up-girl" experience.
