GOAL PARTNERS WITH SNOW FAMILY FOUNDATION AND TORAH DAY SCHOOL
Jewish Themes to be Incorporated into GOAL Curriculum for Middle School Girls
ATLANTA (February 8, 2007) – GOAL, a nonprofit organization that provides experiential programs that build self-awareness in adolescent girls, has received funding from the Snow Family Foundation to develop a version of its curriculum that incorporates Jewish themes. The curriculum will be introduced to students at Torah Day School of Atlanta beginning in the fall of 2007.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for GOAL,” said Gail Rothman, chief executive officer of GOAL. “Not only will we have an immediate impact on the students at Torah Day School, but we will also have new opportunities to reach even more girls here in metro Atlanta and across the country by offering a version of our curriculum that is complemented by Jewish themes.”
The GOAL curriculum, which addresses the developmental needs of girls in sixth through ninth grades, includes six modules: creating and maintaining effective relationships, knowing and expressing your voice, identifying and using your gifts and talents, valuing and accepting your body, respecting and appreciating diversity, and setting and achieving your goals. The curriculum is used in GOAL girls groups conducted by trained facilitators, and is also available to be licensed by other girl-serving organizations.
“It just seemed like a natural fit,” said Eileen Price, director of funders services for the Snow Family Foundation. “The GOAL curriculum already reflects many of the values that we want to instill in Jewish young women. This partnership gives us the opportunity to make use of a curriculum that has had a tremendous impact on thousands of girls, but to incorporate Jewish values as well.”
GOAL currently serves more than 1,000 girls through 10 direct partner sites within Metro Atlanta and licensing partners in south Georgia; Milwaukee, Wis.; Boston, Mass.; and Indiana.
